Dr Alireza Abouhossein

Dr. Abouhossein has earned his PhD from University of Bern, Switzerland and his Masters of Engineering Science from University of Western Ontario, Ontario, Canada in Mechanical Engineering. He has several years working experience in automation companies. He earned his PhD in the area of biomechanical engineering in collaboration with Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA-ETHZ) for musculoskeletal modeling to identify dynamic loads as a possible injury mechanism to the lumbar spine and how facetectomy may affect load bearing characteristics of inter-vertebral disc. Dr. Abouhossein is currently involved in a post-doctoral project at the University of Leeds with a title “A Smart Biomimetic, self Tuning, fully adaptable Lower Limb Prosthetics with energy recovery (Smart BioLeg)”. Current available lower extremity prostheses fall short of providing proper feedback, comfort and stability to the amputee users. He uses his interdisciplinary background in mechanical engineering and biomechanics to tackle the problem associated with lower limb prosthetic design. He is recipient of both educational and industrial awards including research assist program from MSC Company. He is also on editorial board of the International Journal of Engineering and Mathematics.
