Workshop: Transition of Autonomous Robots to the Clinic

Date
Date
Friday 26 May 2023, 11.30 - 17.00
Location
Sir William Henry Bragg Building

Robotics at Leeds will host a single-day workshop in Leeds to identify the transitionary gaps between robot autonomy and clinical practice. We will be hosting several international speakers focusing on medical and human-interaction robotics. If you wish to attend, please respond via the following link by Wednesday, 17th May at the latest.: https://forms.office.com/e/ENgzA0CLin.

Workshop Description:

Health systems across the world are overburdened. Further actions should be taken to cover and optimise the needs across the health systems. These actions should focus on allocating new resources, recruiting, and improving the current training pathway. One of the possible solutions to this is the introduction of smart AI-enabled medical robots that can simplify and assist with medical tasks, reducing the cognitive load, fatigue and risk accrued by clinicians in their daily life. While some robots have been brought forward to clinical practice, many research systems stall their development. This gap seems to occur in the transition to cadaveric and human models, and in medical regulation. This presents a challenge relevant to all medical robotics researchers: "How do we transition autonomous robotics to widespread use in clinical practice?" In this workshop, we hope to bring together a range of experts from robotics, clinical practice, and medical regulation to forge discussion on the current challenges and identify concrete gaps from the wide communities' perspectives.
