With the recent proliferation of human-oriented robotic applications in domestic and industrial scenarios, it is vital for robots to continually learn about their environments and about the humans they share their environments with. In the Strands project which aimed to produce research into techniques to allow robots to be deployed over long periods of time, researchers at the University of Leeds investigated techniques to allow robots to acquire models of human activity collected in real scenarios such as office environments, in an unsupervised manner, and to ground natural language descriptions of activities to the emergent concepts.
