- Wednesday 22 February 2023
Speaker 1: Nils Marahrens (School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds).
Nils is a last year PhD student at STORM Lab, working on Autonomous Surgical Robotics.
Title: Autonomous Ultrasound-Guided Assistance during Robotic Surgery.
Abstract: With the da Vinci Research Kit (dVRK) as his main platform, his work focusses on expanding the system's capabilities from a mere teleoperation platform towards a mean of automation with improved surgical outcomes. Using intracorporeal ultrasound, his work aims at enabling more precise, autonomous imaging of the target regions and employing the detected anatomical features to deliver targeted assistance.
Speaker 2: Aravinda Srinivasan (Institute of Transport Studies, University of Leeds).
Aravinda is an engineer who likes to factor in the human when designing a product/algorithm. He is passionate about Robotics and its place in our future.
Title: Technology in Autonomous Driving.
Abstract: This talk will be about the current technology used in autonomous driving, and it will highlight the need for taking human factors into the design.
Speaker 3: Hendrik Ottman (School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds).
Hendrik will introduce engineers to the concept of hackspaces and showcase the limitless potential for innovation and creativity through a real-life example project.
Title: Exploring the World of Hackspaces: A Journey Through Creativity and Innovation.
Abstract: The talk will be a mix of presentation and demonstration, and the remote-controlled shopping cart project will be the centrepiece, showcasing the limitless potential of hackspaces for innovation and creativity. The talk will inspire engineers to explore the world of hackspaces and embrace the opportunities they offer for learning, collaboration, and innovation.
