Talk Abstract:

Professor Savarimuthu will present an overview of the ARTHUR robot, a fully autonomous ultrasound robot for scanning patients with arthritis, developed through medical robotic research conducted by SDU Robotics.

The talk will focus on the priorities and compromises made during the transition from a university research project to a commercial product.

Biography: 

Thiusius Rajeeth Savarimuthu received in 2011 his Ph.D. degree in Robotics and embedded medical vision. In 2005 he received his B.Sc. degree in Computer System Engineering and the M.Sc. in Computer System Engineering in 2007 at the University of Southern Denmark. He is currently full Professor at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark, where he is heading the Medical Robotics group and head of SDU Robotics. He has conducted research in both national and international research projects. His research interests include industrial robotics, AI and hardware acceleration of image processing algorithms and control of medical robotic systems. He has published more than 140 peer-reviewed research publications and 13 patents with 2 more pending. Furthermore, he started 3 spin-off companies based on this research.
